Art in the Park

KIDS GET CREATIVE, FEEL RIVER’S INSPIRATION

BradBrad, Rhinebeck

“I love the idea of viewing children’s Hudson River art online. What a great idea.”—Jean Cendali, art teacher, Haldane Elementary School, Cold Spring

Got creative kids? Then send them outdoors—so they can enter our Art in the Park contest. Youngsters have until Monday, April 30, to submit works inspired by a Scenic Hudson park or other Hudson River scene.

“This art contest will help our students enhance their appreciation of the Hudson River Valley.”—Linda Haenichen, teacher, Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, Poughkeepsie

Submit creations online—at www.scenichudson.org—then have your kids bring them to our free reception on Sunday, May 20, when judges will award prizes to the winning entries. Those who can’t make it can still win through our online “People’s Choice” awards. You can vote for your favorites while looking at our special online gallery.

Complete contest and reception details are available there as well. Valley teachers are using the contest in lessons about the environment and local history. So we’re expecting many more colorful drawings and paintings to come. Best of all, Art in the Park is connecting lots of children with nature.

“These kinds of activities motivate students to appreciate and care for their community.”—Marilee Hobbs, humanities teacher, City of Hudson High School
