Film Screening—The Hudson: A River at Risk

Event Date:
Thursday, April 6, 2017 -
7:00pm to 9:00pm
Event Type:

Reserve your tickets for this screening of Jon Bowermaster’s series, The Hudson: A River at Risk, with a panel discussion to follow including representatives from Scenic Hudson, Riverkeeper and director Jon Bowermaster.

The Hudson River, like many waterways around the world, has long been treated like an infinite waste barrel. But for the past 50 years environmental groups—Scenic Hudson, Riverkeeper, Clearwater and many more—have worked to revive the Hudson and the beautiful valley that surrounds it. The short films to be shown examine risks from so-called “bomb trains” transporting oil along the riverside, the aging Indian Point nuclear plant and the massive Tappan Zee Bridge replacement project. Also featured is the impact that industry continues to have on the region—from the toxic PCBs dumped into the river by General Electric to proposed oil pipelines and a recent plan to greatly expand Hudson River anchorages for oil barges.
