Matt Smith: Hudson Valley Hero
Astonished that the Town of Lloyd, Ulster County, where he lives, is the only community along the Hudson that doesn’t offer residents a place to connect with the river, Matt Smith did something about it. He spearheaded a 14-year campaign to create Highland Landing Park. Soon his dream will be realized. With Scenic Hudson’s help, the town is purchasing a former riverside fuel terminal. When complete, the 1.7-acre park will feature a riverwalk, a boat launch, an education center and space to fish and picnic.
Matt Smith: connecting people with their river
“The biggest thing about this area is the Hudson River. The fact that we couldn’t get to it was unthinkable. It’s fantastic we’ll now have access.”
