Nov. 28 Public information meeting about environmental cleanup at Long Dock Beacon
A public information meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 28, will discuss contamination and recommendations for cleaning it up on a portion of Long Dock Beacon on the City of Beacon waterfront.
At the meeting, sponsored by the state Department of Environmental Conservation and Department of Health, the Remedial Investigation Report – which outlines the results of an exhaustive, year-long examination of the property – will be presented. The report, which was submitted by Scenic Hudson and developer Foss Group Beacon LLC, currently is under review by the two state agencies.
WHEN: Wednesday, Nov. 28, 7 p.m.
WHERE: Municipal Center, City Court Room (Upper Level), 1 Municipal Plaza, Beacon
The report, which concerns an 8.85-acre portion of the property that was formerly an industrial salvage/scrap yard and oil-storage facility, indicates areas of PCB contamination as well as elevated levels of lead and petroleum hydrocarbons. It recommends a comprehensive cleanup.
Once the report is approved, Scenic Hudson and Foss Group Beacon will submit a Remedial Work Plan, a blueprint for remediating the contamination. Cleanup of other portions of Long Dock Beacon already have been completed following state guidelines.
Long Dock Beacon is slated to be transformed into the nation's first all-"green" hotel/conference center and a public park. Groundbreaking on the hotel is scheduled to take place in 2008.
