Save the Date: Roosevelt Farm Lane Reopening Celebration
Join Scenic Hudson and the National Park Service on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 15, for a celebration of the restoration and reopening of the Roosevelt Farm Lane trail in Hyde Park. The event features all kinds of fun ways to hike, run, ride or walk the 1.8-mile trail that links the Roosevelt home Springwood and Eleanor Roosevelt's Val-Kill.
A beautifully restored carriage trail now traverses the 334 wooded acres that Scenic Hudson transferred to the National Park Service in 2007.
The celebration will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 15th at the Route 9 Trail head, across from Home of FDR in Hyde Park, New York. Festivities will include: ribbon cutting at 1:30, guided hikes (2:00), a 5K fun run (2:30), guided bike ride (3:00pm), and mountain biking on adjacent trails. A shuttle service will operate until 4:00pm and an electric tram will make several round trips across the new trail. Parking and additional community activities will be held at the drive-in theater.
In 2007, Scenic Hudson transferred the 334-acre property the National Park Service (NPS). Thanks to the recent improvements made by the NPS, visitors now will experience the property much as the Roosevelts did and connect with land that was very personal to one of America's great families. Speaking of the Scenic Hudson land transfer, U.S. Department of the Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne said, "This is the most important expansion of the FDR National Historic Site that will ever happen."
