Y NOW YOU HAVE PROBABLY OBSERVED THAT OUR NEWSLETTER HAS A NEW LOOK AND EDITORIAL DIRECTION. SCENIC HUDSON'S WORK HAS EVOLVED, AND WE KNOW OUR READERSHIP IS INCREASINGLY BUSY. THE GOAL IN REWORKING OUR NEWSLETTER IS TO MAKE IT MORE ENGAGING AND READER-FRIENDLY.
Your Valley will deliver news you can use and feature the voices of our diverse partners - people from all walks of life who contribute to Scenic Hudson's accomplishments in communities throughout the valley. Let us know what you think.
A fleet lined up on the Hudson
During the cold winter months, my family and I enjoyed many of the valley's wonderful recreational offerings. My adventures included the thrill of ice boating. Reid Bielenberg of the Hudson River Ice Yacht Club welcomed me aboard his classic rig, and we flew back and forth across the frozen expanse. I was again inspired by the immense gifts our river provides.
This love of our region has mobilized a new cadre of citizens to fight St. Lawrence Cement's misguided proposal to build a massive industrial complex outside the City of Hudson. Our coalition now includes 16 organizations officially opposed to the cement plant, and together with committed individuals (please see Faces of Activism) we are making our voices heard from Albany to Hudson to Manhattan to Washington, D.C. We have reached out to public officials in neighboring states who are sounding an alarm over the far-reaching impacts this project could have.
During turbulent times healthy communities and natural places provide solace and stability. That is why now and always, Scenic Hudson promotes balanced, sustainable growth for the valley and challenges out-of-scale projects. We continue acquiring new properties, fighting for a successful PCB cleanup and using our planning expertise to revitalize urban riverfronts. Our success depends on an informed and involved citizenry.
I hope you enjoy this debut issue and that it will energize you to continue advancing our shared goals.
