N CELEBRATING 40 YEARS OF ACHIEVEMENT, SCENIC HUDSON IS FOCUSED ON THE FUTURE AND OUR VISION OF AN OUTSTANDING QUALITY OF LIFE FOR EVERYONE IN THE HUDSON VALLEY.

Up and down the 10-county region, we are uniting citizens, business and government leaders to revitalize communities. Our expert staff is working with municipalities to advance smart economic development and tirelessly battling projects that would irrevocably damage landscapes that have inspired people for centuries.

No project would wreak greater environmental and economic havoc than the massive industrial city and cement manufacturing complex proposed by the St. Lawrence Cement Co. for Columbia County. Scenic Hudson is taking the "Stop the Plant" campaign to all reaches of the Northeast. We have met with public officials, leading newspapers and health advocates from Manhattan to Maine, and they now are calling on Gov. George E. Pataki to deny this project - to protect the public health and his legacy as an environmental leader. Please go to stoptheplant.com today to add your voice.

Outstanding quality of life is possible only when environmental values are the foundation of economic development. That is why Scenic Hudson helped bring the world-class Dia museum to the City of Beacon. And why we now are working there to create a waterfront hotel and conference center that will set the highest environmental and renewable-energy standards.

Our annual Spirit of the River Gala on Friday, June 11, will honor the City of Yonkers for bringing positive development to its waterfront. We are proud that our two decades of urban planning, land preservation and advocacy in this community yielded a recently completed urban village with public esplanades, townhouses and the new Beczak Environmental Education Center. We hope you will join us at this exciting celebration.

Despite such progress, sprawl development is outstripping all efforts to manage it. Unless Scenic Hudson can expand our capacity to protect farmland and open space, our vision for the valley will be just a dream. Help us by playing a more active role than you ever have, and together we can have a healthy environment, economic opportunity and a gorgeous Hudson River Valley.
