Up and down the valley, developers are ravenous to build along a revitalized Hudson. Could this change your hometown? You bet. Our experts are tracking 27 waterfront proposals for a staggering 11,000 residential units in 15 communities.
Overwhelmed residents look to Scenic Hudson to fight for special places where they can enjoy the river and to help them be part of planning the future of their communities.
Ecological and Economic Vitality in Sleepy Hollow
During a packed January forum hosted by Scenic Hudson and Historic Hudson Valley, residents strongly supported our latest innovation for transforming the former GM site -- the lower Hudson River's largest intact parcel.
In the past we built consensus among citizens, officials and the developer for a plan that creates places where people can get down to the river's edge and appreciate the legendary landscapes along its shores. Now we are advocating for restoring the Pocantico River as a natural treasure that would flow along the edge of the development. |

Community members are excited about the potential of walking and biking along the riverside trail we envision. Kayaking opportunities and hands-on waterside field trips for schools also are generating enthusiasm, as are potential benefits to water quality and wildlife. Our research shows tremendous potential for restoring this important natural asset, and we will continue advocating for it.
A Stand for Kingston's Last Waterfront
In Kingston two large proposals -- including the city's largest ever -- would create nonstop development along its last open waterfront. A combined 2,500 units would raise the local population an incredible 25 percent.
We are informing residents on both sides of the river about potential impacts. Our planners have put forth alternatives that still bring new housing and businesses to the waterfront but with a scale and density that preserves community character, important vistas and places where people can experience the uplifting majesty of our river.
