While Scenic Hudson aggressively challenges ill-planned development and promotes smarter alternatives -- including our own "green" hotel and park in Beacon -- we also protect special landscapes. We're building a critical mass of protected farmland and beautiful, natural areas -- for future generations.
We purchased 600 acres, including nearly a mile of Black Creek frontage, in Esopus, Ulster County. We're pursuing additional parcels to link with our Black Creek Forest Preserve, an ecologically robust landscape where the Black Creek meets the Hudson.
Vital bird habitat and freshwater wetlands -- as well as a sandy beach along the Hudson -- are unique features of a 112-acre property Scenic Hudson recently acquired in the state-designated Vosburgh Swamp and Middle Ground Flats area, Coxsackie, Greene County. The land connects to a 123-acre property we purchased last year as well as Scenic Hudson's Four-Mile Point Preserve, popular for canoe and kayak access and hiking trails with impressive Hudson views.
Scenic Hudson recently partnered with local, county and federal agencies to protect a 203-acre farm in Warwick, Orange County, where we have preserved four other farms in an important agricultural district. We're continuing to preserve active farms in Columbia and Dutchess counties.
