UNIQUE EAGLE HABITAT PRESERVED; ANOTHER FARM SAVED
Scenic Hudson purchased 123 acres of the Vosburgh Swamp in the communities of Coxsackie and Athens. Recognized statewide as a scenic and ecological treasure, it is home to bald eagles and spawning fish and features a 2,300-foot Hudson shoreline.
Scenic Hudson and the Town of Warwick protected a 93-acre farm with stunning scenic and agricultural values. Dating to the 1770s, Raynor Farm produces crops and dairy stock. A community gateway, it boasts 59 acres of state-certified prime farmland.
STOP ATTACK ON KEY LAND PROTECTION TOOL
Congress' Joint Committee on Taxation is trying to eliminate tax deductions for donated conservation easements. The deductions provide powerful incentives for voluntary, private land conservation and have helped to save 34 million acres of natural and scenic areas and working farms.
The Joint Committee wants to curtail fraudulent deductions; however, its proposed approach would punish all donors instead of focusing on the abusers.
We support appropriate reforms, not wholesale dismantling of a tax-deduction program with 25 years of success. This move must be stopped. Use our Web site to contact your senators and representatives, scenichudson.org/takeaction.htm. |
