Give to Your River, Get Something Powerful in Return
Stand at our river's shore, and you will be energized by its majesty and renewed by its magnificent vistas. There is no better way to preserve this experience for generations than by joining Scenic Hudson's Great River Sweep.

For seven years, the Sweep has made it easy for people of all ages to do something wonderful for their community. Often it takes a volunteer team just a few hours to rescue a park or shoreline choked with trash. The commitment made to their river lasts a lifetime.

I hope you enjoy the coordinator profiles in this issue as much as I have. You can make your own Sweep story by joining a cleanup between April 16 and 24, www.GreatRiverSweep.org.

THE NEW YORK TIMES BACKS INNOVATIVE PLAN FOR SLEEPY HOLLOW WATERFRONT
Our plan for transforming Sleepy Hollow's waterfront through redevelopment of the 100-acre former GM factory site there gained potent support recently from The New York Times and a number of key allies. The stakes are high on this project because the property is the largest undeveloped waterfront parcel in the lower valley.

For five years Scenic Hudson's experts have provided technical planning assistance to shape redevelopment plans. Residents deserve a worldclass waterfront. That is why we now are advocating for restoring the Pocantico River that runs near this site. Reviving this Hudson tributary would help to control flooding, improve water quality and wildlife habitat and create new opportunities for waterside field trips.
The best [riverfront projects] will be those enriched by a sense of history, an abundance of ambition and a touch of dreamy audacity. All three are present in a proposal by Scenic Hudson to restore the historic flow of the Pocantico River.
Important local and regional groups supporting our bold concept include the Hudson River Fishermen's Association, Sierra Club and Federated Conservationists of Westchester County.

YOUR SUPPORT IS CRITICAL
