History
In the fall of 2000, Tim Vilinskis, a local builder who was concerned about the economic and environmental consequences of sprawl, met with Scenic Hudson to discuss ways that developers and environmentalists might work together to prevent the impacts of sprawl in the region. These conversations led to the convening of a roundtable of diverse interests representing the environmental, planning, real estate and development communities.
This group continued to meet over the next year during which time they developed a set of guiding principles that expressed its shared concerns regarding long-term growth patterns in the Hudson Valley. It also agreed to form an alliance of independent organizations that would endorse these principles, and to hold a regional conference on Smart Growth to bring its unique burgeoning partnership to municipal planners, policy makers and other parties interested in addressing these important growth issues. See "Stopping Sprawl in It's Tracts".
