Advocate for Pedestrian-Friendly Communities
Encourage traffic calming improvements in your downtown, such as narrower driving lanes, on-street parking and crosswalk bumpouts. Insist on the inclusion of sidewalks and other pedestrian amenities in any road improvement projects occurring in urban areas (including your town or village center). Encourage your community to develop a bicycle trail network.
Drive Less
Combine errands into one car trip if possible. When trip length is less than one mile, consider walking. If possible, park once and walk to several destinations.
Ask your employer about commuter options, including carpooling, vanpooling and flex benefits. See Commuter Choice or MetroPool for more information.
