The New York State Thruway Authority and Metro North Railroad are studying regional transportation needs and mobility within the Tappan Zee Bridge/I-287 corridor. This public process will likely result in one or more of the following:
- A renovated Tappan Zee Bridge
- A new river crossing (bridge, tunnel or possibly both)
- Additional lanes on I-287 and the river crossing
- Enhanced transit across the corridor.
Scenic Hudson has been a strong influence during the Thruway Authority's narrowing of design alternatives from 156 to 15 since spring 2003. When the agencies select three to five proposals in 2005, our experts will continue pressing a model planning approach that protects water quality, historic properties and iconic vistas while promoting innovative strategies that reduce traffic. |
