2008 in Review: Building a Quadricentennial Legacy with New Riverfront Parks
Scenic Hudson is helping riverfront communities create waterfront parks in preparation for the 2009 Quadricentennial.
Scenic Hudson's leadership grant will help the "Walkway Over the Hudson" linear park become the keystone of Quadricentennial celebrations.
"Our Saving the Land That Matters Most campaign will create a lasting legacy that will long outlast the fireworks and festivities of 2009. People 100 years from now will celebrate our accomplishments in creating a healthy, sustainable Hudson Valley." — Ned Sullivan
We provided grants in Hastings-on-Hudson and Cortlandt (Westchester), Nyack (Rockland), Tivoli (Dutchess) and Bethlehem (Albany), so the public can enjoy the Hudson at new or improved riverfront parks ranging from two to 80 acres.
We also provided a leadership grant to transform the 120-year-old Poughkeepsie Railroad Bridge into Walkway Over the Hudson, the world's longest elevated public park, which will link to 30 miles of rail trails in Dutchess and Ulster counties.
