Reed Reports -- Feb. 2008
And the ANSWER is...
Scenic Hudson member Michael McPeck from Poughkeepsie correctly identified this photo as being at Snake Hill near Newburgh (Orange).
There may be snakes on Snake Hill, not far from downtown Newburgh, but you probably won't come across them. What you're guaranteed to see -- if you (carefully) bushwhack downhill to a south-facing rock ledge -- is a spectacular panorama of the Hudson Highlands. Right in front of you is Storm King Mountain, where Scenic Hudson got its start.
As soon as you turn into the driveway leading to Snake Hill's parking area, notice the rock on your right -- as if you could miss it. This house-sized boulder fell off a glacier some 10,000 years ago.
Congratulations to Michael McPeck from Poughkeepsie, who, as the first to guess the correct answer, won an autographed copy of Reed Sparling's Hudson Valley Voyage: Through the Seasons, Through the Years. Try your luck with our March challenge!
