Where in the Valley is Reed Sparling? (June 2008)
And the ANSWER is...
Our congratulations to Linda Keeling of Red Hook for being the first to respond to last month's "Where in the Valley is Reed Sparling" contest. She recognized Reed as being atop Burger Hill (Dutchess County).
If you've got a yen for speed and live in the vicinity of Dutchess County's Rhinebeck, chances are you've sledded down Burger Hill. It's one of the Hudson Valley's great rides. It's also one of the region's best short hikes, offering magnificent views of three mountain ranges -- the Catskills, Shawangunks and Taconics. It's hard to imagine a bigger visual payoff for such a small amount of effort. Scenic Hudson preserved the land that's now Burger Hill Park, safeguarding it from development. Today, the 76 acres are owned and managed by the Winnakee Land Trust.
Congratulations to Linda Keeling of Red Hook for being the first to respond with the correct answer. Linda won an autographed copy of Reed Sparling's Hudson Valley Voyage: Through the Seasons, Through the Years. Try your luck with our July challenge!
