Where in the Valley is Reed Sparling? (May 2009)
And the ANSWER IS...
Our congratulations to Natalie Morgan of Putnam Valley, for being the first to respond to the April "Where in the Valley is Reed Sparling" contest. Natalie recognized Reed as being at Foundry Dock Park (Putnam County).
Foundry Dock Park in Cold Spring, Putnam County, may be small but it offers a big payoff, including stunning Hudson Highlands views and a great place for launching your canoe or kayak for a paddle through Constitution Marsh. It's hard to believe this tranquil spot once was the point of embarkation for goods manufactured at the nearby West Point Foundry (whose ruins sit within Scenic Hudson's West Point Foundry Preserve). Train tracks connected the foundry to a loading dock here that stretched far into the river, where steam engines, water wheels and mill equipment were loaded on ships destined for points all over the world.
Our congratulations to Natalie Morgan of Putnam Valley, for being the first to respond with the correct answer. She won an autographed copy of Reed Sparling's Hudson Valley Voyage: Through the Seasons, Through the Years. Try your luck with our June challenge!
