Download this form to pre-register for "Earth Day Lobby Day" in Albany.
On Tuesday, April 15, join hundreds of activists in Albany in calling for stronger laws protecting our air, water, and land and meet Gov. David Paterson, who will deliver opening remarks.
This annual event, coordinated by Scenic Hudson and a coalition of environmental organizations, is a great chance for individuals to come together and show their support for some of the most important issues facing New York State. The morning session features briefings from state lawmakers and environmental leaders about important bills pending in the State Legislature. In the afternoon, participants will meet with State Senators and Assemblymembers and urge them to take action on a number of crucial issues, including:
- Global Warming Prevention (A.10303): Directs the N.Y.S. Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to implement rules requiring sources of air pollution in New York to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050.
- Wetlands Protection (A.7133/S.3835): Protects wetlands that are one acre or more in size or of significant local importance; current state law only protects wetlands of 12.4 acres or larger.
- Brownfield Program Reform: Position paper calling on Governor and Legislature to reform the Brownfield Tax Credits and Brownfield Opportunity Area program to provide greater incentives for better cleanups and development that is consistent with community plans.
- Bigger Better Bottle Bill (A.8044/S.5850): Updates New York’s bottle deposit law to include non-carbonated beverages; requires beverage companies to transfer unclaimed deposits to the State Environmental Protection Fund.
Earth Day Lobby Day is being coordinated by Environmental Advocates of New York, New York Public Interest Research Group, Adirondack Mountain Club, Audubon New York, Citizens Campaign for the Environment, Environmental Defense, Natural Resources Defense Council, New York League of Conservation Voters, Scenic Hudson, Sierra Club, and The Nature Conservancy, and is being sponsored by a wide range of local, state and national groups.
This all-day event is free, but it is recommended that you pre-register using the information in this form.
