Olana Viewshed
Scenic Hudson's is working to protect the spectacular and historic views from this famous Hudson River home
The views that inspired Hudson River School painter Frederic Church are being preserved thanks to Scenic Hudson's land protection efforts.
Olana, the Persian-style home and estate of the famed Hudson River School artist Frederic Edwin Church, is a popular New York State Historic Site. Church designed his home and the surrounding Picturesque landscape to take full advantage of the magnificent views of the Catskill mountains.
Scenic Hudson is working to ensure that these views do not get spoiled by inappropriate developement. To date, we have negotiated land protection agreements on eight properties that feature prominently in the views from Olana to help ensure that future generations can be inspired by the same views that inspired one of the most important landscape painters of the nineteenth century.
