Explorando Carreras Ecológicas: SERENA PADILLA, Garden Educator

La economía verde usa más energía renovable, reduce la contaminación y aumenta el bienestar del valle del Hudson a largo plazo. A continuación se cuenta sobre algunas carreras en crecimiento a nivel local.

Las estadísticas son impresionantes: para el año 2030, más de 24 millones de trabajos pueden ser creado globalmente por la economía verde, según La Organización Internacional de Labor. ¿Qué son algunos tipos de estos trabajos y que hacen estas personas?

La Voz y www.scenichudson.org’s HV Viewfinder visualizan un futuro sustentable e inclusivo para el Valle de Hudson, así que hicimos un equipo para aprender sobre carreras ecológicas a través de cuatro personas locales que tienen unos roles interesantes. Estos líderes no solamente se sienten desafiados, pero también dicen que están contribuyendo a revitalizar el área para hoy y mañana.

¿Qué haces? Doy clases de jardinería a todos los estudiantes en kínder hasta segundo grado, y manejo/mantengo los jardines en las escuelas. Nuestras lecciones tienen raíces en jardinería, alimentación, comunidad, salud, y ecología.

¿Cuáles son las actividades que haces diariamente para tu trabajo?
Enseñando tres a cuatro clases basado en jardinería, jugando afuera y excavando en la tierra, haciendo jardinería con miembros de la comunidad, cocinando con jóvenes de varias edades, organizando y coordinando con maestros y administradores, y desarrollando currículo.

¿Como haces un impacto con tu trabajo? ¡Me encanta esta pregunta! Creo que este trabajo tiene un impacto de largo plazo en la manera en que los jóvenes se acercan a nuevas cosas y se sienten conectados a la naturaleza. Los jardines de la escuela son lugares tranquilos para los jóvenes de antecedentes diferentes para que puedan entender las dinámicas de los ecosistemas, explorar la generosidad de la naturaleza, y entender que ellos son un parte integral al mundo.

¿Qué puede hacer alguien que tiene interés en esta carrera? Involúcrate en la comunidad- escucha a las necesidades de la comunidad, ofrecerte como voluntario en los jardines comunitarios, aprende de personas que han estado involucrado en el trabajo de justicia alimentaria. Siempre toma un enfoque intersecciónal- considera como trabajo conectado a la educación y medio ambiente interseca con raza, clase, genero, movilidad y requiere un ojo crítico.
