Position Title

Campaign Manager Consultant – Stop Danskammer Power Plant

Scenic Hudson is seeking a limited-term part-time campaign manager consultant to grow and implement a grassroots advocacy campaign to stop the proposed gas-fired Danskammer power plant on the Hudson River. Working collaboratively with Scenic Hudson’s advocacy team, this position will manage and build relationships with diverse coalition members and grow a multi-faceted campaign to stop Danskammer. Regular travel within the Hudson Valley region required.

This is a part-time (approximately 25 hours/week expected), independent contractor position for an 18-month term. Extension up to 24-months is possible.


Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years’ experience in advocacy and/or political campaigns. Proven success in campaign planning and implementation. Knowledge of energy and climate landscape in New York State. Excellent listening, interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate with diverse audiences. Ability to think strategically, set long-range goals and track progress. Strong people engagement and relationship-building skills. Self-starter who can work independently while responsive to direction. Familiarity with the Hudson Valley environmental community strongly preferred.

Primary Responsibilities

Campaign Management: Develop and implement campaign plan for coalition-driven coordinated campaign to stop the Danskammer power plant. Work independently to manage separately branded campaign under direct oversight of Scenic Hudson Director of Advocacy. Set strategic short- and long-range objectives for multi-faceted campaign. Track progress and metrics.

Coalition Building: Manage partnerships with collaborating organizations and key players, cultivate relationships with diverse allies, and expand the constituencies supporting our efforts. Strategically identify individuals and organizations to recruit as supporters.

Grassroots Mobilization: Expand and strengthen network of advocates and mobilize citizens. Orchestrate coordinated actions for maximum impact. Create opportunities for action for coalition members and the public.

Represent Scenic Hudson at on-the-ground events throughout the Hudson Valley.

Provide regular updates to Scenic Hudson Advocacy Director on campaign progress and deliverables.
