SUMMARY:Where The Wild Books Are: The Overstory
DESCRIPTION:Join the Columbia Land Conservancy for Where The Wild Books Are\, a book club meeting! During this meeting we will be discussing\, The Overstory by Richard Powers. \nGoodreads says\, “The Overstory is a sweeping\, impassioned work of activism and resistance that is also a stunning evocation of—and paean to—the natural world. From the roots to the crown and back to the seeds\, Richard Powers’s twelfth novel unfolds in concentric rings of interlocking fables that range from antebellum New York to the late twentieth-century Timber Wars of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. There is a world alongside ours—vast\, slow\, interconnected\, resourceful\, magnificently inventive\, and almost invisible to us. This is the story of a handful of people who learn how to see that world and who are drawn up into its unfolding catastrophe.” \nLight refreshments and snacks will be provided. For any additional information please email Hannah Schiller at hannah.schiller@clctrust.org to join the list-serve\, or join the Facebook Group.Where The Wild Books Are: CLC Book Club group on Facebook! \n\nMore info here.

SUMMARY:Hudson River Access Meeting—Rhinebeck
DESCRIPTION:SAVE THE DATE: Your input needed to help preserve Hudson River access.\nResidents of riverfront communities like yours enjoy fishing\, launching boats\, birdwatching and hunting along the Hudson shoreline. Yet railroad-created barriers have made it harder and harder to enjoy these activities. \nResponding to the potential for new barriers that could further impede waterfront access\, Scenic Hudson has commissioned a study—the first in 30 years—to document places where people connect with the river for recreation. It also will recommend additional locations for safe shoreline access. \nYour input is critical for completing this study. \nPlease attend one of these three community meetings to let us know where and how you use the river now and\, more important\, where and how you’d like to use it in the future.

SUMMARY:Apple Picking Volunteer Night (with a free cider tasting!)
DESCRIPTION:Our 2019 apple crop has several cosmetic blemishes that make many of the apples a little “ugly”. The apples are as crisp and delicious as any farm-fresh apple\, but because of their freckles and scabs\, this sort of “ugly produce” often goes to waste in the field. \nWith your help\, we won’t let any good apples go to waste. We’re still open for regular pick-your-own apple picking\, but this year we will also be donating much of our crop to the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley to help feed local families in need. \nTo make this happen\, we need your help! Come by the apple orchard between 3-7pm to help us pick “ugly” apples to donate to the food bank. \nAfter you’ve picked a bushel of apples\, visit the market to use our antique cider press to make a fresh batch of apple cider. Cider pressing starts at 5pm. \nBy visiting our farm and picking our apple crop this year\, you’re taking a small step to reduce food waste – and we appreciate your support. Read more about our apple crop and the impact of “ugly produce” here: https://www.greigfarm.com/blog/our-ugly-apples \n  \nMore info here.
