SUMMARY:Great Hudson River Estuary Fish Count
DESCRIPTION:Every summer\, Scenic Hudson takes part in this event\, sponsored by NY’s Hudson River Estuary Program\, to document the many creatures living beneath the water. \nWe could use your help to drop the nets and record this year’s haul. \nIt’s a great\, hands-on way for kids of all ages to connect with the river and the wildlife depending on us to protect it. \nAfter learning about the critters — and returning them safely to their home — the fun will continue with games and fish painting.

SUMMARY:Webinar: New Leaders for the Hudson River and the Clean Water Act at 50
DESCRIPTION:Introducing Tracy Brown\, Riverkeeper’s new President and Hudson Riverkeeper\, and David Toman\, the new Executive Director of Hudson River Sloop Clearwater\, joining Ned Sullivan\, President of Scenic Hudson for over 23 years\, in a conversation with activist and filmmaker Jon Bowermaster. \nIn this historic Earth Day online event\, three pioneering Hudson River environmental organizations come together to discuss the 50th anniversary of the landmark Clean Water Act. Scenic Hudson\, Riverkeeper and Hudson River Sloop Clearwater\, were all founded in the 1960s to protect the Hudson River from the massive pollution that was destroying it and rescue the dying river. \n50 years later\, two of these organizations have new leaders and all three have new visions for the future of the Hudson River. \nThe modern environmental movement was founded on the Hudson River in large part because of these courageous grassroots groups. Each organization brings different strengths and strategies to protecting the river and they work together to harness the power of the Clean Water Act and other tools to protect our waterways. \nWe invite all to join us for this free online event to learn more about each organization and get to know our leaders\, and to learn about the history and the future of the Clean Water Act.  \nRegister Today!

DESCRIPTION:10th Annual Woodstock Land Conservancy Film & Discussion Series \nIn 2019\, NYS passed the most ambitious\, hopeful\, and solution-oriented legislation in the country to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. By 2030\, 70% of our electricity must come from renewables. In our part of the Hudson Valley\, this means solar farms. Where will they go\, who will make the decisions\, and what will be the competing demands of agriculture\, housing\, tourism\, and aesthetics? \nWe all want action on climate change. How do we balance people’s reservations against the pressing need to act now? Engage with short videos and live interviews plus Q&A with some of the climate leaders in the Hudson Valley\, including Jen Metzger\, former State Senator and current advisor to New Yorkers for Clean Power\, and Audrey Friedrichsen\, Land Use and Environmental Advocacy Attorney for Scenic Hudson. \nRegister for this program here:\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUtduisqTspGdIuBPmaASmXfaqGGgiGiD10

SUMMARY:Stop the Plant: Public Hearing
DESCRIPTION:Danskammer has appealed the Department of Environmental Conservation’s (DEC’s) October 27th decision to deny their fracked gas power plant its air permit. Tell decision-makers to uphold the DEC’s decision! \nHOW TO HELP: \n\nSpeak out at a virtual public comment hearing on Tuesday\, February 15 — for more details and to register\, click here. The deadline to register is February 11th. \nYou can also send written comments by Tuesday\, February 22.\n\nThis is a last-ditch effort to keep alive a project that would emit millions of tons of climate-warming gases\, spew cancer-causing pollutants\, and harm environmental justice communities in and around Newburgh. \nThe DEC’s comprehensive decision to deny Danskammer’s air permit rests on solid legal ground — but let’s take advantage of every opportunity to ensure the plant doesn’t get built.

SUMMARY:Virtual Public Meeting: Orange County Climate Resilience Planning
DESCRIPTION:Do storms cause flooding in your neighborhood more often? \nAre long summer heatwaves cramping your outdoor fun? \nIf you live in Orange County\, you can help create solutions for these and other growing climate impacts. \nTo learn how\, attend a virtual meeting hosted by the county Planning Department. \nThe department is developing a County Resilience Plan — to identify local risks from climate change and prioritize projects to address them — and it wants residents to participate. This meeting will provide information about the process and ways you can get involved. There also will be time for questions and comments. \nOrange County has experienced millions of dollars of losses due to historic flood events and storm surges\, while the number of heat advisories grows annually. Climate change is projected to increase the number and severity of events like these\, making this plan — and your input — essential to help county communities adapt to the future.
