Yes, there’s a World Mental Health Day, and it falls annually on Oct. 10. Whether on that day or far beyond, mental health is worth us all celebrating! And we’ve got the ideal way to begin: with some exposure to nature.

Lots of us have the general sense that time in the outdoors is good for our well-being. But let’s break it down. Researchers at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health have found that spending time in green spaces is associated with:

  • better sleep
  • lower blood pressure
  • decreased anxiety and rumination
  • increased positive emotions
  • mental restoration

Even if you’re in front of a screen right now, may we suggest starting by soaking up a single minute of the Hudson Valley’s beautiful natural world until you can get out in it next?
