Heather McArthur, AIA

Design Director
MASS Design Group

Heather is a Design Director based out of the Hudson Valley studio. She sees architecture as the intersection of addressing the impact our industry makes on the environment, engaging people and place to fully understand the complexities of a project’s context, and maintaining a shared goal to create transformative spaces.

Heather joined MASS in 2022 and is currently working on a range of projects in Poughkeepsie for various regional non-profit organizations and government entities, with a focus on adaptive reuse, preservation, urbanism, and education. Scenic Hudson’s Northside Hub will preserve and transform a pre-war factory into community space and offices for the environmental non-profit by the same name. The YOU and The Trolley Barn will provide much-needed access to educational and recreational spaces and opportunities for Poughkeepsie youth and beyond.

Heather received a Masters of Architecture from Washington University in St Louis, and a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Lehigh University.

Before joining MASS in 2022, Heather practiced at Weiss/Manfredi Architects in New York City, where she was involved in cultural, institutional, and state department projects. Before NYC, she worked at Marlon Blackwell Architects in Fayetteville, Arkansas and taught undergraduate architectural studios at the University of Arkansas. She is motivated to build upon her work and teaching experiences and contribute to designs that promote equity, community, and embody creative sustainable solutions.
