We have begun accepting applications for permits for the Shaupeneak Ridge fall 2025 deer hunting season. We will continue to accept entries on a first-come, first-serve basis until we reach our permit limits or until Friday, September 12 at 5 p.m.

Permits will be distributed via email no later than Friday, September 19. 

Hunting at Shaupeneak Ridge Cooperative Recreation Area is managed in partnership between Scenic Hudson, Inc., the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, and the West Esopus Landowners’ Association, and is subject to all rules and regulations of Scenic Hudson, Inc. and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

Hunting during bow season (early and late) is limited to 100 permits, regular gun season is limited to 80 permits and muzzleloading is limited to 40 permits.

Although Shaupeneak Ridge Cooperative Recreation Area only allows a certain number of hunters on the site, a number that was determined as its carrying capacity, there are other resources you may wish to investigate. For more information on hunting in New York State visit the Department of Environmental Conservation website at https://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/hunting.html.
