HUDSON VALLEY, N.Y. – Scenic Hudson fully supports the decision of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin to uphold the rule that polluters are accountable for cleaning up “forever chemicals” in communities grappling with contamination. One type of these chemicals, called PFAS, have contaminated drinking water supplies and land across the country. Some have been linked to serious health risks, including developmental and fertility issues and cancers. The chemicals have long been used in industry as well as in everyday consumer products, including nonstick packaging and cookware.
The Hudson River has also faced the scourge of a different forever chemical in PCBs; concerted action to address the cumulative impact of them all is essential.

Scenic Hudson President Ned Sullivan said: “Scenic Hudson applauds EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin’s sound decision to ensure that the nation’s environmental agency maintains its active engagement and vigilant stance in protecting public health and the environment from the scourge of forever chemicals. The ubiquitous nature of these toxins in our environment and their devastating impacts on the health of people and families require action. We need the full might of the EPA to address current contamination and prevent future instances that put our nation at risk.”
