MARLBOROUGH (Ulster County)—In an effort to spearhead protection of Ulster County's famous "fruit belt," Scenic Hudson has purchased voluntary conservation restrictions on two parcels of a multigenerational family orchard in the Town of Marlborough. Responding to the severe development pressures in this region, the organization hopes that completion of this transaction—one of Scenic Hudson's first in Marlborough—will generate additional interest in building local support to safeguard area farms.
James SlaughterJames A. Slaughter has joined Scenic Hudson as its director of Land Use Advocacy. He will lead the development and implementation of strategies for preventing poorly designed, large-scale projects along the shores of the Hudson River and promoting reuse and restoration of the waterfront as a public and natural resource.
