Ferncliff Forest

Rhinebeck (Dutchess County)

Why we love it

If you were enjoying a sandwich at one of Rhinebeck’s many restaurants, you could be forgiven for not realizing that just a few minutes outside of town, a fire tower stands in the woods, beckoning you to climb it. Those brave souls who do are rewarded with spectacular views of the Hudson River, Catskill Mountains and the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge. Ferncliff Forest also offers miles of woodland trails to explore, along with a pond and a recently completed pavilion.

More to explore

If your retinas can handle more awesome views, head to nearby Burger Hill and Poets’ Walk Park for scenic hikes. Rhinebeck also features many interesting stores, inviting restaurants, and even a cool movie theater (Upstate Films).

Highlights

  • 1.2-mile hike leading to fire tower and magnificent views
