Why we love it

For those who crave a day at the beach but wilt at the thought of nonstop swimming and sunbathing, this place is for you. Located on a scenic stretch of the Hudson, it has the requisite sandy beach, ample-sized and lifeguard-staffed. When large freighters pass, some mid-sized waves even reach the shore. But the park also features several hiking trails, a playground, horseshoe pits, basketball hoops and beach volleyball, as well as barbecue grills and a boat launch. And the park’s rentable pavilion, which holds up to 85 people, makes it a great place to host a waterside party.

Not far away, the 3 miles of trails at Scenic Hudson’s Falling Waters Preserve lead through a remarkable variety of habitats — meadow, forest and rocky shoreline.From May-September, HITS-on-the-Hudson in Saugerties hosts daily show-jumping competitions between some of the country’s leading riders (and horses).
