Solaris

Kingston (Ulster County)

Why we love it

Add another item to your family’s Hudson Valley bucket list: a trip on the Solaris. Launched in 2019 by the Hudson River Maritime Museum, it’s the only fully-powered solar boat on the Hudson. Its engine practically purrs, and with all that quiet, you can concentrate on the beauty of the river and enjoy the sounds of waves and wildlife. Tours aboard Solaris focus on the Rondout’s industrial past and historic nearby lighthouses, or you can take a one-hour cruise wherever the captain decides. No matter the destination, you’ll be seeing — and, more important, hearing — the Hudson in a whole new way.

More to explore

Don’t miss exhibits in the maritime museum. And for another fun excursion, hop aboard one of the Trolley Museum of New York’s historic railcars for a 1.5-mile trip to Kingston’s Hudson Riverfront park.
