Teatown Lake Reservation

Yorktown Heights (Westchester County)

Why we love it

While the 1,000 acres at Teatown Lake Reservation are laced with trails leading to ponds, creeks and beautiful woodland scenery, the show-stealer is the floating boardwalk that runs right across the lake — complete with benches encouraging visitors to just sit back, listen to the frogs and watch the lily pads bob on the water. Say hello to the many turtles, geese and other critters that make this place home. After the boardwalk, you have nearly 15 more miles of trails to explore, along with an environmental education center.

More to explore

Nearby Croton Gorge Park is another Westchester destination that should be on your to-do list. It lets you amble atop a giant stone dam, giving you a bird’s-eye view of a magnificent spillway and waterfall.

Highlights

  • Floating footbridge across a scenic, lively lake
  • 15-mile trail system leading to many other points of interest
  • Perhaps the highest density of lily pads in the Hudson Valley
