Director of Human Resources

Mission of Position: Designs, plans, and implements the policies and activities of human resources for the organization, ensuring legal compliance, and implementation of the organization’s values of diversity and inclusion (DEI).

Qualifications:    Bachelors degree in a related area and at least 6 years’ professional experience, Masters degree preferred. Excellent verbal and written skills, along with excellent organizational skills. Proactive and collegial work style and adept at leading and participating as an effective team member. Effective researcher with analytical skills to help set the strategies and programs for recruiting, retention, professional growth of staff, and advancing organizational DEI priorities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and HRIS systems, Paycom preferred. General knowledge of the spectrum of Human Resources, including leadership development and succession planning. Candidate should share a passion for the organization’s mission, commitment to environmental justice and diversity, equity and inclusion.

Principle Responsibilities May Include:

∙ Collaborates with the Executive Team to understand the organization’s goals and strategy related  to staffing, recruiting and retention.  

∙ Develops, reviews, and implements policies and procedures to support Scenic Hudson’s human  resource compliance and strategy needs.  

∙ Oversees the administration of human resources programs including compensation, benefits, DEI,  leave, evaluations, disciplinary matters, performance and talent management, occupational health  and safety, staff morale, productivity, training, and development.  

∙ Utilizes the organization’s human resource information system (HRIS) to effectively manage  recruiting, preparation and advertisement of job descriptions, screening applications,  recommending prospective employees, conducting reference and background checks, and   drafting hire letters. Acknowledge and close search campaigns.  

∙ Builds out functionality of Scenic Hudson’s HRIS in a way that will allow research and analysis  of organizational trends and metrics for reporting to the Human Resources Board Committee.  ∙ Coordinates with Office Manager and outsourced IT staff to ensure new employees have all  necessary equipment and materials. Works with supervisor of new staff to ensure the most  effective onboarding experience possible, including new employee orientation for benefits,  policies and procedures, orientation.  

∙ Keeps up to date on trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human  resources, talent management, best practices for DEI, and employment law; applies such knowledge to communicate changes in policy and/or practice to the Executive Team.  

∙ Responds to federal workplace surveys on organizational and employment statistics. 

∙ Works with supervisors to identify growth areas for staff and facilitate professional development opportunities.  

∙ Key contributor in ongoing collaboration between the staff DEI committee and Executive Team  to advance DEI priorities, build community and trust among staff, and organizational learning. 

∙ Manages mandatory federal and state mandated leave issues, such as: FMLA, New York State  Short-Term Disability, New York State Paid Family Leave, and Long-Term Disability. 

∙ Provides employee and management trainings, related to compliance, supervisory responsibilities  and organizational needs. Find sources for individualized professional development needs. 

∙ Plans staff events and connection opportunities that help build a cohesive organizational culture,  advance organizational DEI goals and recognize staff achievements and longevity.  

Compensation:
Full Time, salary range $110,000 – $130,000 with competitive benefits, commensurate with experience.
