Julio en la Granja Comunitaria Pershing

Gracias al cuidado y la dedicación de un increíble voluntariado, Pershing Community Farm ya está en flor este verano. Hileras de jugosos tomates, frondosas berzas, dulces melocotones y suculentas frambuesas, cada cosecha refleja el duro trabajo y el corazón de la comunidad local.

Ven todos los martes de 4 a 6 p.m. para recoger productos gratuitos cultivados en la propia granja o por nuestro socio local, el Poughkeepsie Farm Project. Es una forma estupenda de llenar tu bolsa — y tu semana — con algo fresco.

Además, cada semana hay algo nuevo con eventos organizados por organizaciones locales. Consulta el boletín de anuncios o la lista de abajo para ver lo que está por venir.

  • Aprende a hacer infusiones de hierbas
    31 de julio, 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
    Ven a este taller práctico sobre infusiones de hierbas con Poughkeepsie Farm Project con LaLa. En esta sesión inmersiva descubrirás el poder sanador de las hierbas locales, aprenderás a crear infusiones calmantes y energizantes, y adquirirás conocimientos prácticos para crear mezclas para tu propio bienestar. Sin importar si apenas te adentras en el mundo de las hierbas, o eres aprendiz de alquimista culinario, ven con ganas de degustar, aprender y conectar en comunidad. Ya casi llega un nuevo mural a Northside — ¡ayuda a decidir cómo será!

En 2022, Scenic Hudson se asoció con jóvenes artistas de The Art Effect para iluminar la zona norte de Poughkeepsie con un mural vibrante. El mural original tuvo que ser retirado debido al deterioro del edificio y al desgaste general.

Se está preparando una nueva obra de arte para celebrar el Fall Kill — nuestro arroyo común que conecta vecindarios, da alimento a la vida silvestre e inspira el descubrimiento del medioambiente.

Ya estamos en la estación de salir al sol, recoger productos frescos y conectar con la comunidad, y un lugar ideal para disfrutarla es la Pershing Community Farm.

En junio comienzan los puestos de hortalizas semanales GRATUITOS y nuevas oportunidades de voluntariado. Nos complace recibir a gente vecina, tanto de antes como nueva, para dar inicio a un verano lleno de cultivo, aprendizaje y sabor local.

PROGRAMAS DE JUNIO: 

  • Voluntariado en la Granja: 
    Ven a echar una mano y participa en el cultivo:
    • 7 de junio, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. (y el primer sábado de cada mes, excepto julio)
    • Lunes, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.

¡El mes pasado, Pershing Community Farm dio la bienvenida una vez más a gente jardinera de la comunidad — y nos complace compartir que se han asignado las 22 parcelas de jardín.

Este vibrante espacio verde ofrece a la comunidad vecinal de Northside la oportunidad de cultivar alimentos frescos, explorar la agricultura urbana sostenible y, aún más importante, crear vínculos mutuos más profundos.

Carley, Agricultora Urbana, está sembrando remolachas, cebollas, col rizada (kale), berzas, lechugas, tomates, flores, hierbas aromáticas y mucho más que crecerá durante toda la temporada y estará disponible GRATIS en los puestos semanales de la granja los martes, 4 – 6 p.m. a partir de la segunda semana de junio hasta noviembre.

    • ¿Te intrigan las plantas, los pájaros, los polinizadores y la fauna que viven en Poughkeepsie? Acompáñanos en una sesión de formación práctica y aprende a contribuir a una creciente base de datos sobre la fauna urbana. Tus observaciones ayudarán a dar forma al estudio Definir la biodiversidad urbana, que se llevará a cabo durante los próximos tres años en Kingston, Newburgh y Poughkeepsie.
  • Observación de aves: 20 de mayo, 8 a.m. – 11 a.m.

Strengthening Conservation Within the State Budget

What’s at stake?

Scenic Hudson supports adding language in the final NYS budget that addresses the following:

Mansion Tax Exemption for Nonprofit Organizations

Scenic Hudson applauds the Governor for her proposal to exempt not-for-profit organizations from the 1% real estate transfer tax on residential real property over $1 million (commonly referred to as the Mansion Tax.) Scenic Hudson often conserves land within high-property-value areas. This transfer tax exemption would allow us, and our partner land trusts, to conserve important land in the Hudson Valley region and across the state, and to fulfill our missions to improve and protect our communities. We encourage the Legislature to include this exemption in the one-house bills.

Modernizing the State Land Acquisition Process

Scenic Hudson was encouraged when the Governor’s State of the State message included a section called “Make Open Space Accessible for All”:

“Recognizing the need for streamlined processes, the Governor will also champion several key initiatives. These will include modernizing the use of title insurance to expedite land acquisitions, …and reducing the financial hurdles faced by non-profit organizations in their land conservation efforts. These changes and investments will empower the state to more effectively protect our natural heritage for future generations.”

We respectfully request the Senate and Assembly work with the Governor to take this important step forward in modernizing the state land acquisition process as part of this year’s budget, and urge priority attention to promoting the use of title insurance by the NYS Office of the Attorney General and the creation of a land acquisition grant program for the distribution of a portion of the Bond Act land protection proceeds.

Real Property Tax Law Section 532

Both Sojourner Truth State Park and Franny Reese State Park are owned by the Palisades Interstate Park Commission. Since the formation of these parks, the lands that they encompass have been removed from their respective communities’ tax rolls. For the Town of Lloyd specifically, this host community has not received the tax benefits from the Franny Reese State Park property for almost 15 years. Most other New York State Parks owned by the Palisades Interstate Park Commission fall under Real Property Tax Law (RPTL) 532, which requires specific lands owned by and/or used by NYS to pay local property taxes. Throughout history, there have been many amendments to RPTL 532 to include the lands owned by the Palisades Interstate Park Commission, so that the host communities receive property tax payments. Scenic Hudson supports amendments to RPTL 532 as part of the budget process that would add the current and future state park lands that are in the City of Kingston and the Town of Ulster (Sojourner Truth State Park) and the Town of Lloyd (Franny Reese State Park).

Parking Rules at Scenic Hudson’s Northside Hub

A security or law enforcement officer may call to have vehicles towed for any of the following:

  • Weekdays only: No valid Scenic Hudson permit or visitor permit/pass. 
  • No after-hours parking (after close of Walkway, dusk). Violation of “No After-Hours Parking” rule (vehicle parked on private property after business is closed). No overnight parking.
  • No parking for:
    • vehicles over 8’ tall, due to limit of the solar canopy. There is an 8’ vehicle height limiter at entrance to 55 Parker Ave. 
    • boats
    • trailers 
    • campers 
    • motor homes 
    • tractor trailers or large (above 1 ton) commercial vehicles.  
  • Tow away zone. Sign posted and/or pavement markings.   
  • Fire lane. Vehicle parked in a designated fire lane.   
  • ADA violation. Vehicle parked in ADA space, ramp or unloading zone, with no ADA permit or expired ADA permit.  
  • Non Electric Vehicle (EV) in EV parking space – after 24 hours.
  • Reserved / assigned parking space. Vehicle is parked in a reserved or assigned parking space (could have resident/tenant or guest permit and be towed).
  • Non-customer (for future tenants). Vehicle operator is not a customer of this business located on the property.
  • Off pavement. Vehicle parked on grass, off the pavement, or on landscaping.
  • Blocking access. Vehicle hindering access, blocking dumpster, building entrances, loading docks, or zones, or parked in driveway, aisle, or next to a red curb.
  • Vehicle taking up two (2) parking spaces. (Parking line stripe must be down center of vehicle).
  • Hashed out space. Vehicle is parked in a non-parking space that has been hashed out and is primarily used for pedestrian access.  
  • Parked on the sidewalk. Vehicle is parked on the sidewalk.
  • Double parked. Vehicle is parked behind another vehicle.
  • Health hazard. Vehicle leaking fluids (federal or city environmental violation), full of trash or hazardous bios (rotten food or similar substances).   
  • Flat tire(s). Vehicles should receive notice for a minimum 24 hours before towing.
  • Wrecked or abandoned vehicle (i.e. broken window(s), vehicles on jacks, blocks, missing wheels, major parts, parked in same location for longer than 48 hours.) Vehicles should receive a notice for a minimum of 24 hours before towing.
  • For sale vehicle. Vehicle is parked in front row facing the street displaying a for sale sign. For sale vehicle to be removed after a 24-hour warning is given. 
  • No parking at any time. Vehicle is parked on property when posted “NO PARKING FOR ANYONE AT ANY TIME.”
